Bustamante Reading Project - May 7, 2006 - 3:35pm - 5:30pm

The members shared an afternoon with the children at the Burn Unit of the Bustamante Children’s Hospital, on Sunday May 7, 2006. We were met by Miss Ramsay and were later introduced to Nurse Crossman. These ladies were very hospitable, considering the fact that we were on the Burn Ward.

The Children were read to and a few of the older ones engaged the members in interactive discussions and chatter. VP Donnah also donated a cake.

Optimists who participated were:
Lorna Gooden, Sharron Christie, Wylet “Biggie” Reid, Delma Maxwell, Margarietta St Juste, Grace Brown, May Lawrence-Evans, Donnah Wanliss & Marsha Woolcook

The above photographs show Optimists Lorna and Grace interacting with the Children.

The older boy above whose name is Andre O’Connor, in the minds of the members, embodies Optimism. He lost his right hand resulting from being electrocuted, however he possesses an amazingly cheerful spirit and outlook on life. He is felicitous and exhibits excellent artistic skills; he graciously gave one of his drawings to VP Lorna (unsolicited). He is also in the process of completing a 2’x3’ art work of Disney characters and his art book has excellent drawing of the mural on the wall in the ward.

The members who participated agree that it was an afternoon well spent.
