We have just completed observing RESPECT FOR LAW WEEK (May 1 - 7, 2006) the committee for which was chaired by Secretary Paulette Champagnie. This very vibrant committee worked very hard to ensure that this was a successful event and we will be posting feedback reports and pictures as well as plans to follow up.
As we continue to touch the lives of our youth, and grow from the experience, we will also be presenting a report from the committee chaired by President Elect Lorna Gooden on the BUSTAMANTE READING PROJECT held on May 7th , 2006 where fellow optimists ventured to the Burn Unit of the Bustamante Hospital for Children to read and interact with them.

PURPOSES OF OI
The Five Purposes:
To develop optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed;
To promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs;
To inspire respect for the law;
To promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people;
To aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, community life and the world.
